Our last At Sea Day before Dutch Harbour
Today is May 9th.
This morning, the weather looked as grim as Treasurer Jim's Budget, full of uncertainty, rough seas, strong winds and a few showers.
Once again the decks are closed for exercise and it looks like another day focused on subsistence (eating and drinking). The bright side is we will arrive in Dutch Harbour at around 7 am tomorrow morning.
The ship is still being tossed around a bit and a few people are seasick, but we are fine and daily activities continue as normal.
As the day progresses, the weather starts to improve and we can see patches of blue sky. The seas are flattening out and barometric pressure increasing, so hopefully the bad weather is now behind us. By lunch time the ships motion is much more comfortable and we decide to eat out in the pool deck area and enjoy a bit of sunshine.
Whilst the promenade deck is still closed for exercise, we have noticed a few people walking around the sun deck on the 8th floor, so we decide to venture outside to get a bit of exercise. Fully equipped with beanies, gloves and warm clothes it was good to get some fresh air and stretch our legs.
At 4.30pm there is a Port talk to give us some information about Dutch Harbour head of our arrival there tomorrow. There are no organised shore excursions at Dutch Harbour as it is not really a tourist town. Their population of 4,000 will increase by about 20% once we go ashore.
Dutch Harbour is the largest fishing port on the West Coast of USA, catching mainly cod and pollock. The highlights of the town appear to be a substantial hotel, an historic Russian Orthodox Church, a WW11 museum and an Aleutian museum.
We will clear immigration at Dutch Harbour and our dock will be about 4 km from town, so shuttle buses have been organised. They have managed to muster up 3 school buses for the task so it is going to be interesting and depending on the weather walking into town may be quicker.
Tonight we dined again at the Italian Restaurant on board, Manfredi's. As usual it was a great meal and excellent service. After dinner we went to the show for a while, but ended up going to the night club instead, where to resident band was playing and were much better than the guest entertainer.

Everyone is looking forward to stepping onto Terra Firma tomorrow.
