Hubbard Glacier
Fortunately, there were no further medical episodes or other disasters overnight and we arrived at our staging point to enter the bay to see the glacier at 10 am, on time.
Early indications on our arrival are not good. Foghorns are blasting and the entrance to the bay is not visible. Nevertheless we join the conga line of ships that come to see this attraction, the pilot comes on board, and we progress slowly forward awaiting our turn. Norwegian Spirit is currently in the bay and we are next. We are told there are another 2 ships behind us joining the queue.
The Glacier is somewhere behind this sea fog
As we get closer to the entrance visibility clears. It appears the fog was at sea and we are now through it. There have been a few whale sightings whilst we have been waiting.
Eventually Norwegian Spirit's time has run out and they depart from in front of the glacier allowing us to enter.
There are a lot of new staff on board, that we picked up in Seward and I suspect for a lot of the staff this is their first Alaska experience. They were taking photos madly to send back to their families.
After our allotted time expired, we departed from the bay to allow access for the next ship in line, dropped off the pilot, and proceeded underway to our next destination, Glacier Bay near Juneau. We should arrive at the entrance to the fjord at around 7 am
