Cruising the Bering Sea
The ship is now at 54 degrees latitude and the outside temperature is a bit warmer at 3 C. The low pressure system is catching up with us and today we expect some shower and whilst the seas are still moderate, the wind speed is gusting to 38 knots. We haven't yet ventured outside, and may not do so, as there is a lot of spray from the wave tops in this breeze.
It is May 8, and on May 8 we are scheduled to cross the International dateline which will result in the next day also being May 8. The timing of the dateline crossing is a bit unclear.
We are now just North of the Aleutian Island Chain with the nearest Island ( Attu Island, in the Near Islands Group), 54 Nm away. Our ETA at Dutch Harbour is 8 am on the May 10.
As the day progressed, the weather deteriorated further. Wandering around the ship we stumbled upon a cooking demonstration by the head pastry chef that occupied a bit of time and later on we watched a presentation on the Artemis Space Program, which is the rebirth of the Western World's space exploration and includes participation by many Nations including Australia.
We are still moving our clocks forward an hour every day, which is causing plenty of confusion.
The Chef's Table has a new menu tonight so we headed back there for another very nice meal.
Crossing of the International Date Line will occur at 12 noon tomorrow, when it will become May 8 again.
