At Sea on our way to Kodiak
Passing through the Aleutian Island chain last night, we are now on the Southern side of the archipelago enjoying calmer seas and more settled conditions.
Our position at 12 noon
Berthing at Kodiak Island will be at 8.am tomorrow morning.
This morning there was a talk by the resident astronomer about Pluto and Arrokoth. It was about the horizons mission, a new initiative by the USA using the fastest rocket ever built which is sending back images of Pluto and beyond. I stayed awake for most of it, but the information download in these lectures is astounding. Having not worked at NASA for 40+years, like the presenter it is a bit overwhelming.
Conditions on board are much more pleasant today. We did our 6 km deck walk before lunch against a stiff breeze, and temperatures are still 4-5 C.
This afternoon we had a Port briefing for Kodiak, where we will be tomorrow morning. Once again we are warned that it is not really set up for tourists, so be patient and there are limited shore excursions. We have opted to explore the place on foot. The ship will berth only about a 10 minute walk from town.
Hopefully the weather will be kind to us as it sounds like a pretty place, with a population significantly higher than Dutch Harbour, but still very much focused on fishing.
Dinner tonight was back at the Chefs Table specialty restaurant, with another great menu and matching wines.
N new entertainer joined us at Dutch Harbour, probably came in on the plane we saw land. He did an excellent tribute to Neil Diamond this evening.
