At Sea in the North Pacific
We left the Sea of Okhotsk in the early hours of the morning , passing through the Kuril Islands , before resuming our ENE course towards the Aleutian Islands.
At 12 noon we were at latitude 50 degrees 27 minutes, and were 48 nm off the Russian Coast.
Sea conditions are now much rougher in the North Pacific Ocean, the wind has strengthened to 30 + knots. It is 2 C outside with some visible snow flakes and a lot of spray on the deck. Outside exercise has been taken off our agenda today. The wind is around 35 knots and the seas around 4-5 metres. The ship is starting to bounce around a bit, but is still very comfortable.
There was a great presentation this morning on space exploration, how Russia led the way, USA caught up and excelled and how China is now pouring a huge investment in becoming the new leader.
We are meeting a lot of interesting people, and look forward the social interaction that comes with at sea days. The Monarchists are all watching the Coronation on board tonight. Some how they are still managing to stream video at this high latitude.
We dined again tonight at the Chefs Table with another great 5 course menu with matching wines, before heading off to a show with a Jazz/Blues vocalist, Meaghan Murphy, possibly of Irish Heritage.
At the evening show we met another of the many Australian couples on board, who were from West Pennant Hills and owned a Hanse 418 that they keep at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. What a small World.
